Major painpoints

01

Lego sales have decreased over the past 13 years since children now favor playing video games over brick- or platform-based toys like legos. The growth of digital devices and entertainment, however, may mean that some kids have less interest in playing with conventional toys like LEGO.

The family-owned Danish company said on Tuesday that its 2017 sales declined by 8% to 35bn Danish kroner (£4.2bn) following a “challenging year” during which it axed 1,400 jobs. Children spend less time playing platform games because of competition from video games, social media, and other digital gadgets for their attention.

Lego's current efforts are focused on augmented reality (AR), which allows users to interact with real bricks in a digital setting. The toys-to-life category has a long history with augmented reality.

In December 2017, the LEGO AR Technic app made its debut. It is an augmented reality app made to improve the fun of playing with LEGO Technic sets.

GOALS

03
To create an AR/VR version for the users to have engaging experience
01
To promote and increase sales of lego set to users
02
To enhance the experience of the advertisement using 3D modeling of the items

PAINPOINTS

  • When making a purchase, LEGO buyers may lose interest if they are unsure about what is inside the kit.

  • Once constructed, Lego kits are not used by children. Kids find it less interesting and involved, and it just ends up being squandered.

  • Nowadays, kids prefer playing digital games over physical games like board games, lego sets, etc., which require little physical activity and may contribute to a sedentary lifestyle. This can lead to health problems such as poor posture and eye strain.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

"How can we boost sales and promote the lego sets to the target audience?"

04

Kids' creativity and brain development are known to be boosted by Lego sets. Our secondary study revealed that sales are declining. We intend to provide a design solution for the users to deal with the issue within the LEGO AR Technic app.

The user can scan the QR code on the product to access the following features as follows:

  • The user can first play an VR game to improve the interaction between the user and the product. As a result, people will be more inclined to buy it because they can play and interact with it.

  • The application's 360-degree view capability might help the consumer better understand the sets within the box before making a purchase.

  • Through one of the features, users can view the product's complete specifications and price through the application.

Therefore, developing this feature to the existing LEGO Technic app will raise children's interest in buying LEGO, ultimately increasing sales of LEGO kits. Also, this will encourage them to exercise both their minds and bodies.
